The Fresno County Peace Officers
Memorial Foundation has been the instrumental force behind the
design, construction and maintenance of the beautiful monument
situated in the southern portion of Fresno County Courthouse
Park. The group of volunteers responsible for the Memorial is
dedicated to seeing that the memory of those Peace Officers, who
have made the ultimate sacrifice, does not fade into the
forgotten history of Fresno County. Every year in the month of
May, a memorial service is held to honor those fallen officers.
Those who come across the Memorial
for the first time are usually surprised at what a moving and
respectful tribute this monument represents. For those who have
attended the memorial services, the impressions can last a
lifetime.
The Memorial requires a continual
funding for upgrades, maintenance and insurance. The Memorial
Foundation is in a continual process of raising money for the
monument and a looming reality exists. As distasteful as it may
be, reality dictates that our sometime violent and unpredictable
society will cause the need to add additional entries.
The design and plans for the
addition of “triangular columns” to be added to both sides of
the monument have recently been completed. The columns are
constructed of matching polished granite, and will hopefully
fulfill the needs of the monument for a century to come.
Today, we are extremely fortunate
to have the opportunity to contribute to this very special and
enduring memorial. In the spirit of appreciation of those who
have made the ultimate sacrifice, I would like to make a modest
request in reaching out to those in our community to assist us
in the funding of this memorial. The Foundation is a non-profit
501 C (3) organization and tax deductions may be taken.
Sincerely,
James Olson,
President
